Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
